Psychology

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies, in conjunction with WAU’s Department of Psychology, offers two Master of Arts degree programs, one in Counseling Psychology and the other in Professional Counseling Psychology.


Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology

(39 hours: Non-licensure program)

The M.A. degree in counseling Psychology prepares the Student to function as a counseling psychologist under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.

 

Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling Psychology

(60 hours: LCPC program)

The M.A. degree in Professional Counseling Psychology prepares the student to be a counseling psychologist and to operate an independent practice. It is identical to the M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an additional 21 hours completed after Field Experience II. The student will be eligible to take the State of Maryland licensure exam (LCPC) upon completion of the M.A degree and 2000 hours of supervised clinical experience.

Nursing

Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN-Ed)

A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is an advanced-level Postgraduate degree for Registered Nurses and is considered an entry-level degree for nurse educators and managers and prepares a nurse to seek a career as a Nurse Administrator, Health Policy expert, or a Clinical nurse leader. The MSNE may be used as a prerequisite for doctorate-level nursing education and previously was required to become an advanced practice nurse such as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse anesthetist, or Nurse Midwife. This graduate-level degree focuses in one or more of many different advanced nursing specialties such as acute care, adult, family, geriatrics, neonatal, palliative care, pediatric, psychiatric, Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, etc.In addition, graduates will be able to achieve a level of academia within educational arenas which is second to none.

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Washington Adventist University was designed to accommodate the demanding schedules and educational needs of a working adult student. Instructors are experienced professionals and leaders in both the MBA and Nursing Administration disciplines in the nation's capital. The condensed program format will allow students to complete the masters degree in as little as 18 months with the benefits of attending class two nights per week or 24 months in the one night per week program.

Master of Science in Nursing & Business Leadership (MSNBL)

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is designed to provide advanced business theory and practices. Students complete a balanced curriculum of twelve courses that provide opportunities to develop advanced business skills that are current and applicable to real-world business situations.

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Washington Adventist University was designed to accommodate the needs of working adults. The full-time program allows students to complete a Master's degree in as little as 12 months through a flexible schedule of evening and/or online courses. Students may choose part-time and still finish in 24 months.

Master of Arts in Health Care Administration

The Master of Arts in Health Care Administration (MAHCA) degree is designed to provide the essential knowledge required for senior managerial and planning work in the health services. Students complete a balanced curriculum of twelve courses that provide opportunities to develop advanced business skills that are current and applicable to real-world business situations.

The SGPS Graduate Studies Program provides accelerated graduate programs to working professionals, who have earned an undergraduate degree, with an opportunity to complete a graduate degree in 12 to 24 months. Find out more about our Graduate Studies Program»

Professional Studies

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies combines our previous Adult Evening Program and our MBA program, along with our External Degree Program and our Online Program, to enhance what was the first accelerated adult education program in the D.C. area, giving you access to the programs you need to jumpstart your career!

Business Administration (BS)

The Bachelors of Science in Business Administration degree provides a general background in the Major areas of business enterprise, management, accounting, finance, marketing, legal issues, and planning. The Bachelors of Science in Information Systems degree provides a sound  theoretical and practical working knowledge of information systems. The Bachelors of Science in Health Care Administration degree provides sound theoretical and practical working knowledge in healthcare management and administration. The Bachelor of Science in Counseling Psychology provides the kind of preparation needed by deans, guidance counselors, and high school psychology teachers when combined with appropriate education courses. Find out more»

Organizational Management (BS)

The Bachelors of Science in Organization Management degree emphasizes the personal skills of management by drawing from studies in social science such as sociology, psychology, and communication; as well as management science. Degree- seeking students complete a core curriculum consisting of twelve courses in the selected major and a guided independent research project.  Find out more»

Nursing/Excell (BS in Nursing for RN'S)

The Bachelors of Science in Nursing/ Excell degree was developed with the working heal care professional who wishes to expand their education in nursing. Following the same 18 month continuous progression as the other SGPS degree and certificates, the EXCELL Nursing program decreases the number of at- school hours along with a decrease in associated clinical hours and an increase in written assignments based on work experience.
