First Year Experience-Gateway 09

Gateway 09 is the First Year Experience (FYE) orientation program at Washington Adventist University. If you are a first-time Freshman and plan to attend Washington Adventist University in the Fall 2009 semester, the FYE session is required for enrollment.

You can view the schedule here.

What You Need to Do to be Ready for Gateway 09
To be ready for the Fall Semester, First Year Washington Adventist University students must complete the following:

1. Confirm acceptance—Call or email us by August 1.

2. Get financially cleared—Students must complete financial clearance before moving into the dorms or eating in the cafeteria. As a convenience, WAU’s tuition payment plan begins July 1st or August 1st. If you have any questions about financing your education at Washington Adventist University, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services at 1-800-835-4212 or 301-891-4005.

3. Take placement tests (if necessary) and select classes*. Not sure you need to take a placement test? Call 1-800-835-4212. Placement Testing is ongoing. If you need to take a Placement Test in either math or English and would like to do so early, contact the Center for Learning Resources (301) 891-4106. Otherwise, be on campus by 8:30 am on Wednesday, August 26.

4. Mark your calendar for your academic year to begin August 27 at the GATEWAY 09 Dinner and Ceremony—you may arrive on August 26 to register and financially clear and move into the residence halls. RSVP for you and your family, letting us know how many to plan on at 1-800-835-4212 or enroll@wau.edu.

5. Buy and read the book, The Shack, by William Paul Young.

6. Complete the assignment based on the book, The Shack. This assignment is due August 28, during your first FYE class. Click for Summer Reading Assignment.

7. Attend your required one-credit First Year Experience class all GATEWAY weekend, starting Thursday, August 27.

p.s. You'll also want to fill out the waiver for the high ropes course!
