How does the program fit with the university’s mission?

The WAU Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Response Certificate will offer the faith-based community a curriculum focused on service that employs ethical and Biblical principles in disaster preparedness and response. The curriculum, with its emphasis on mass causalities and community health, builds on WAU’s related emergency responders/health care offerings in radiology, respiratory care, and nursing. Those WAU programs provide experienced faculty, related courses, and foundational knowledge that help inform this new program. The Seventh-day Adventist denomination also has a long-standing history of responding to emergencies and disasters. The certificate builds on our denomination’s disaster response expertise, knowledge, and mission as a Church. Therefore, WAU is uniquely experienced as a Seventh Day Adventist and faith-based institution to integrate security and public safety issues with an understanding for service.
