Senior respiratory care students at Washington Adventist University attend professional conferences each semester as part of their preparation for future employment.
The highlight of this conference was the “Sputum Bowl,” an academic trivia contest for teams of three respiratory care students, similar to the TV show Jeopardy. WAU students, Nancy Ajelli, Aleyda Mercado and Makda Zewde, were one of nine teams from five schools in the competition.
They won several rounds of the competition making it to the final four; they were eliminated in the semi-final round by one point.
Seniors Nancy Ajelli and Aleyda Mercado commented that they “enjoyed the lecture topics on Polysomnography and the Mechanical Ventilation lecture by Eric Kriner, RRT.” Clinical instructors and faculty attending were Ahmed Mohamed, RRT, Aaron Smith, RRT, Kimberly Thomas, RRT and Alvin Tucker, RRT.
