Timothy Nelson
is the dean of men for Morrison Hall. After graduating from WAU/CUC he decided to join the Morrison Hall team initially, as the assistant dean of men and has now been head dean for eight years. He continues to be an excellent leader at Morrison Hall. In his spare time Dean Nelson enjoys talking with God, being active, and spending time with his wife.

Morrison-Hall-Dean-1In 2012 Jean Innocent acquired the role of assistant dean which allowed him to be involved in a personal way with the residents of Morrison hall. Dean Innocent takes great pleasure in the encouragement and uplifting of students campus wide and is not afraid to share his testimonies of God’s goodness to those who are going through struggles and to those who are seeking to know more about him. In his spare time he enjoys spreading God’s love to others, experiencing new things, and cooking.

Meet the Team

MinistryBarakaMugandaBaraka Muganda

VP of Ministry

Baraka Muganda holds a doctorate in education, a master's degree in religion, and a bachelor's degree in theology. 

A graduate of Solusi College and Andrews University, Muganda knows the importance of a well-grounded, Christian education.  For this reason, he knew Washington Adventist University would be a good fit for him. Over the years he has proven that his heart and passion is in serving youth. Prior to joining the Washington Adventist University community, Muganda served as the World Youth Director of the Seventh-day Adventist Church from June 1995 to June 2010. His role offered him a wealth of multicultural and multinational experience. In addition to his many responsibilities, he also lectures on youth ministry leadership at the Adventist University of Africa and is an advisor in the doctoral program at the Andrews Seminary in Michigan. He also served as the president of the Tanzania Adventist College in 1984. Over the years, he has held several positions in the Seventh-day Adventist organization.

Muganda enjoys spending time with his wife, Anne, their three daughters, Anita, Tanya, and Diana, his son-in-law Lassana Perry, and his two granddaughters Diana Anne and Angelina.

A life-long learner and a lover of higher education, Muganda is happy to be investing time at Washington Adventist University, where he can continue impacting the lives of young adults.

To summarize his excitement for the youth of this church in one sentence, Muganda says, “I love the youth of this church and have a burden to see all of them saved in God’s Kingdom.”

 

 

MinistryRegina-JohnsonRegina Johnson 

Chaplain of Ministry

Regina Johnson is a native of Huntsville, Alabama who began her education at WAU in the fall of 2007.  She spent the 2008-2009 academic year in Argentina. While a student, her positions included student dean in the women’s residence hall, public relations officer for the students’ association and 2012 senior class president. Though active and well loved by the student body, her impact in service has extended even further into the mission field.

In the spring of 2010, Johnson, along with a small group of students, spent a month as a student missionary in Uganda and Kenya. Their evangelistic efforts led to the baptism of more than 200 souls.

Regina joined the Office of Ministry team as Chaplain of Ministry following her May 2012 graduation. Since then, her leadership has led to the development of Crossroads, a student led church service; new ministries; and the preparedness of 85 souls for baptism and counting.

 

 

 

MinistryKaneil-WilliamsKaneil Williams

Director of Missions

Kaneil Williams is a 2007 graduate of WAU, where he received a bachelor's degree in theology. He also holds a master's degree in educational administration and policy from Howard University’s School of Education (2011). His experience in global missions includes educational development, humanitarian work, church construction, and evangelism across Central America, the Caribbean, and East and West Africa.

Williams’ experience in the non-profit sector, therapeutic youth residential services, youth pastoral ministry, international speaking, and education  serves him well as Director of Missions.  According to Williams, his motivation to serve comes from Micah 6:8: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

"From my first mission experience to El Salvador in 2006, I have felt the calling of God to live a life of service. My prayer is that Washington Adventist University lives up to it's potential as a gateway, and inspires the commitment of life-long missionaries and servants."

 

 

 

Lorena Martinez

Administrative Assistant

Lorena is originally from Guatemala City, Central America where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She has been married for 30 years to her husband, Edwin, and has two children, Andrea and Joshua. Prior to her arrival at WAU in April 2004, she worked 9 years as an employment and training coordinator for Rural Opportunities Inc. Some of her favorite things about her job at WAU are helping and getting to know students. Her favorite bible text is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Capitol Area Community Food Bank Capitol Area Food Bank is committed to uplifting those in need and helping those who are without the means to help them selves. This project is important because no one should go with out food.  Tasks include packing and sorting food.

Sligo Adventist School Reading to students, and assisting teachers at local schools: This project is important because the students at Sligo Adventist School are in need of our help to support learning in our Adventist community. Tasks include reading to students, office work, and grading.

JNA School Cleaning up playgrounds, reading to students, and assisting teachers at local schools: This project is important because the students at John Nevins Andrews School are in need of our help to make their school a better place to learn and grow. Tasks include ground work, correcting papers, maybe reading to students.

Days End Horse Rescue Visit a Maryland Farm and take care of horses that have been retired. Involves animal care and clean up.

Friends of Sligo Creek Clean up and Tree Planting: Outdoor projects are important because it gives us an opportunity to give back, and take care of the world we use, and live in everyday. We need to take care of the parks, streets, rivers, and trees of our community so that we can survive and thrive in the world God created for us.

WAU Beautification There are several projects right here on our own campus that need our attention. By renewing our home we will improve our daily experience and present a more welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

Health Screening – Downtown Silver Spring --only open to Junior and Senior Nursing Majors-- Students be prepared for this day which will be held outside by bringing your blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, pen, paper, watch with second hand, clinical white nursing shoes, slacks, no jeans. The project involves taking blood pressure readings, BMI, and lifestyle counseling.

Mental Health Screening Join fellow Psychology Majors in providing mental health screening for people in Downtown Silver Spring.
Health Screening is important because there are so many people in our community who cannot afford to visit physicians when ill or for regular preventative check-ups. We can handout books and bring Christ into the lives of those who need Him. This project is important because everyone needs Jesus in their lives, and everyone can benefit from knowing Christ better.

Impact Silver Spring – Book Give-Away Impact Silver Spring with positive Christian books and other materials to bless the lives of those who need a spiritual connection and support in living a victorious life.

Takoma Park Elementary School Assisting teachers at local schools: This project is important because the teachers at Takoma Park Elementary School are in need of our help to lend support to those people who work hard everyday to teach the children of our community. Tasks include grading and office work.

High Point High School Give presentations on College and Career preparations. The mission of the school is to ensure that all students acquire information and skills and the ability to apply their knowledge to become lifelong learners and poductive citizens in a diverse/global society.

Takoma Park Recreation Department The Recreation Department is a place where children in our community can have a little fun and participate in important physical activities. Improving their experience there will go a long way to keeping them spending their time with positive outlets. Tasks include fixing up vehicles and cleaning the facility.

Takoma Academy Assisting teachers at local schools: This project is important because the students at Takoma Park Academy are in need of our help to support learning in our Adventist community. Tasks include reading to students, office work, and grading.

Takoma Park City Gardens Clean up and Tree Planting: Outdoor projects are important because it gives us an opportunity to give back, and take care of the world we use, and live in everyday. Food and Friends The mission of Food & Friends is to foster a community caring for men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling. Tasks will be preparing meals.

Crossway Community - Social Work Majors We maintain a deep belief that every individual and family is capable of success when equipped with a set of educational, professional, and personal tools. Tasks: Assisting in classrooms and light cleaning.

Martha's Table
Provides meals to the homeless 365 days a year at various sites throughout the city, as well as providing meals to senior shut-ins and community holiday meals. Tasks: Making emergency food bags, washing bins, and cleaning facility.

Pay It Forward- Langley Park
Witness to the community, by displaying Christ's character through acts of kindness.

Diversity Program
