Falling under the umbrella of Academic Administration are all academic departments and their faculty, the Admissions Office, the Center for Learning Resources, Insitutional Research, the Records Office, and Weis Library.

The department produces the Academic Bulletin, the Facts and Figures booklet, and a variety of other publications relating to academic life and college accreditation.

In addition to teaching and mentoring students, WAU faculty members actively share their wealth of knowledge and expertise in worldwide events. Here we share just a few of the many activities they’ve participated in so far this academic year.

Gaspar Colon, PhD, MDiv, MPH, Dean of the School of Arts & Social Sciences served on the Adventist Accrediting Association team that visited Zaoksky Adventist University in the outskirts of Moscow, Russia.

Jeannette_Rogers_Dulan_1024Jeannette Rogers Dulan, PhD, Professor of Education, received the President’s National/Community Award for Excellence in Higher Education at Oakwood University, Huntsville, Alabama. She also served on Adventist Accreditation Association team that visited Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica.

Davenia Lea, PhD, Chair, Department of Education, presented a workshop on “Differentiated Instruction:  Reaching All Children” for the North Caribbean Conference, St. Vincent and Bequia Region Teachers’ Convention, in St. Vincent.

Joan_Francis_1024Joan Francis, DA, Chair, and Douglas Morgan, PhD, Professor, both of the Department of History & Political Studies, were scholars at the “Ellen White Project” workshop in Portland, Maine and spoke at the “Africa’s Gift to Christianity” conference at the Miracle Temple Church in Baltimore.

Doug_Morgan_1024Morgan has written a three-part series in Liberty magazine titled, “The American Sentinel and the Crusade to Nationalize Christianity” on the American Sentinel, the denomination's first religious liberty periodical, and Liberty’s predecessor,

Daniel Lau, DMA, Assistant Professor of Music, performed a solo piano concert as part of the Music at College of Notre Dame (Maryland) Series at which he will premier six of the 12 James Lee III Preludes—a work by a renowned contemporary composer.

As the President of the Adventist Society for Religious Studies (ASRS), Zack Plantak, PhD, chair, Department of Religion, delivered a presidential address “Adventism and the Healing of the Nations: The Role of the Church in the Public Square at a joint session of the ASRS and the Adventist Theological Society.

Michael Kulakov, DPhil, Associate Professor of Religion, submitted a chapter for the new book Festschrift for Dr. Jan Paulsen, titled “Thinking Ahead: Liberal Arts Education and the Future of Adventist Mission.”

Gina Brown, PhD, Dean, School of Health Professions, Science & Wellness, has written three articles for LEAD Magazine entitled, “Leading to Follow,” “When Worship becomes a Witness,” and “Junk Food Cancers.”

Vesa_Naukkarinen_1024Vesa Naukkarinen, MS, Chair, Department of Health, Wellness and Physical Education, has been recertified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association as Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. He is also working on a research project on the “Health-Related Fitness of Secondary Education Students in Finland and in the U.S.”

Bernice DeShay, MPH, Assistant Professor of Nursing, is involved with conducting courses in the community on Cancer and Hypertension prevention. The PLUS 15 seminars have been done in the area under her leadership and development and are patterned after the book that she has co-authored with the same title.
