Born in Iran, American citizen: Dr. Sadat Aalaee has taught in high school and community colleges in Iran, University of Massachusetts (at Amherst) and Stevenson University before coming to Washington Adventist University. Currently, he is teaching Introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry for Nursing major, Organic, Physical, and Quantitative Chemical Analysis for Science majors.
Research and Professional Activities:
- Synthesis of long chain peptides by rapid solution methods, including an analog of an insect peptide hormone.
- Conducted research for a project involving characterization of molecular and macromolecular structure in collaboration with the protein engineering group.
- Discovery of the first peptide agonist with high potency and selectivity for the Somatostatin receptor subtype. (hSSTR-1) and hSSTR-5, Antagonist for hSSTR-3 and analogues with potent inhibition for Neuromedin B receptors.
- Application of Combinatorial Peptide Library technique in the Structural-Activity Relationship (SAR) studies of short peptide-drugs. Research on Receptors (MC1-5), as well as Melanocortin Concentrating Hormone (MCH) Receptor; contraction of ring size and Cys inversion and incorporating gamma Amino Butyric Acid and PNA's in Somatostatins.
