What is the Bridge Program?
The Bridge Program is a year-long academic venture aimed at giving students a head start in their college experience and providing support throughout their freshman year. It begins with a rigorous five week academic session that will run from July 7 through August 8, 2013. This program will allow students to focus on academics, while building confidence in their ability to succeed at Washington Adventist University (WAU). Students will grow through practicing appropriate learning and study strategies, and building math and language skills. The summer program will place program participants ahead of other entering first-year students, making the transition from high school to college smoother. Students will become more familiar with the WAU campus community and build connections with faculty and staff members. In addition, students will make new friends while having fun. Bridge Program students will receive personal attention from the program's staff and faculty. The program also includes an academic year plan where students receive a faculty mentor and continuing academic and social programming throughout the freshman year and any needed support in the sophomore year and beyond.
Who Should Apply for the Bridge Program?
Students who have applied and have been recommended for the Bridge Program in order to gain acceptance to WAU, and students who want to ensure that their transition from high school to college is successful. Successful completion of the Bridge Program guarantees acceptance to WAU for the Fall 2013 semester.
How Will I Benefit From the Program?
• Enroll in math, English, and study skills courses. Earn credits toward graduation.
• Learn and develop valuable study skills that will help you throughout college.
• Improve writing skills.
How Much Does the Program Cost?
The cost of the Summer Bridge Program is $2,500 but students who complete the program and continue their education here at Washington Adventist University will pay only $700. Should you choose to enroll at another academic institution for the fall semester you are responsible for the full $2,500.
What Should I do to be Considered for the Program?
• Apply to WAU
• The Admissions office will notify you if you meet the Bridge criteria.
• Fill out and submit the Bridge application by June 1st and submit a $250 Deposit. (The balance of $450 is due July 7).
Capital Summer Program, July 14-August 2, 2013
Washington Adventist University has been offering the Capital Summer Program to incoming freshmen for many years. This three-week intensive program, offered just before the start of the fall semester, allows motivated high school graduates and seniors as well as continuing college students who need general education credits the opportunity to earn three credit college credits while immersing themselves in the cultural richness of the Washington metro area. Capital Summer Program 2013 will take place July 14 to August 2.

Who Can Attend
• High school seniors or who qualify for regular admission to WAU
• High School Juniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Current university/ college students
How to Apply for the Capital Summer Program?
• Qualify for regular college admission.
• Submit a Capital Summer Program Application and your $350 program and lab fees to the Admissions Office if you will be living at home. If you will be living on campus you will pay $700 to cover the program fees, and meals.
Current Rising High School Juniors (Entering their Senior Year)
• Submit to the Admissions Office: Capital Sumer Program Application, Letter from high school stating cumulative G.P.A or copy of transcript, and Capital Summer Program tuition and Fees.
Note: Current university students can register for any of the courses offered.

Capital Summer Program Cost (for high school/academy students)
The regular cost of the program is $1820 if you live in the residence hall or $1520 if you live at home. However, if you have been accepted to WAU, paid the confirmation deposit and complete financial clearance for fall by August 15, you will receive a scholarship for tuition and room fees. You will pay only $700 (meals, program fee and $50 lab fee) for the entire program if you live in the residence hall or $350 (program fee plus $50 lab fee) if you live at home.

The Mentorship Experience at WAU
Overview
The Mentorship Experience at Washington Adventist University aims to create an on-going atmosphere of learning, growth, and lasting community for WAU students. The mentoring relationship is designed to provide students with a) an opportunity for professional development and networking; b) support as they transition into a new learning environment; and c) encouragement for academic and personal growth.
For Mentees
The mentee experience exposes the student to an expanded view of WAU and is an introduction to positive role models who have had similar experiences. Through friendship and guidance, mentees develop a personal and professional relationship that enhances their strides toward successful and productive experience at WAU and beyond. For Mentors
Becoming a mentor provides an opportunity for concerned individuals to put their own vision, energy and creativity to work, making an important difference in a WAU student's life. Mentors can benefit from the personal satisfaction of contributing to a student's growth and success. They can also enjoy the stimulation and challenge of inspiring, encouraging and supporting their mentees, thereby contributing to their professional and personal development. The Program
Each fall, students and mentors are matched based on their profiles (see below). Two orientations will be held at the beginning of each semester: one for new mentors, and one for new mentees. Each orientation will cover several topics designed to share tools for both the mentor and the mentee to gain the most out of The Mentorship Experience.
It is highly recommended that mentors and mentees meet face-to-face at least twice a month throughout each semester. Regular, consistent connecting helps cultivate the mentorship relationship, as well as offers students a chance to develop their support-network as they navigate the college experience. Mentors are asked to complete a Progress Form at the end of each get-together; this information will help us help YOU enhance and maintain this experience for both you and your mentee. The program concludes in April with the Mentor Appreciation Banquet.
Both mentees and mentors will be asked to complete two electronic evaluation forms during the year (one per semester). Your observations will help us continue to improve the program. In addition, program staff will provide assistance and a solution if a relationship does not click, as well as offer ongoing support.

Student Association
Every Washington Adventist University student taking six hours or more per semester is automatically a member of the Student Association. The SA is a student led governing body which organizes social and religious activities and represents students' concerns to the University administration. Find out more»
Student Clubs and Organizations
Students may organize and join associations to promote their common interest, goals, and missions as long as they are compatible with the misson of WAU. University-recognized organizations shall have no regional or national affiliations outside the Seventh-day Adventist education system. The only exceptions is nationally recognized academic and honor societies. Student organizations must have University recognition in order to function as an official student Organization of WAU.
