Welcome to ScISet at WAU! ScISet (Science Intensive Set-up) is a program designed for incoming science majors and pre-professional students to get a jump start on their College Biology course. It is an intensive “Boot Camp” to help you to get Set-up to make the transition into college.
Students will:
- Get a jump start on the course
- Learn important study skills
- Meet faculty, teaching assistants, and university staff

ScISet is back to an in-person program this year! The program fee includes lab supplies and costs associated with student professionals to run the program. An e-textbook will be supplied.
Why ScISet?
Freshmen tend to struggle with College Biology and College Chemistry, even if they have done well in high school (Wischusen & Wischusen, 2007). ScISet is based off of Louisiana State University’s BIOS program. LSU has seen great success for their BIOS students during their freshman year, and the skills and confidence follow them through their senior year! The Department of Biology & Chemistry wants WAU’s students to have that same success!
“LSU’s BIOS participants, 2007-2009 cohorts were on-track to graduate in significantly higher percentages than the other students in the [program] at the end of each of the first four semesters, all differences were statistically significant” (Wischusen & Wischusen, BIOS U).
Give yourself the best set-up by coming to WAU’s ScISet! Register early, as spots are limited and given on a first-come first-serve basis.
