Applying for Federal Funding and Assistance

How to Apply for Funding and Assistance

WAU encourages applicants to apply for financial aid. To be considered, you must submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by visiting https://studentaid.gov/. WAU’s School Code is 002067. You can also complete the FAFSA through the myStudentAid app for iOS and Android in the Apple App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android). The FAFSA will enable WAU’s Student Aid office to consider all types of need-based aid. Student Financial Aid reviews the family financial circumstances of each admitted student and determines financial need based on information supplied by the FAFSA.

The FAFSA is available on October 1 and requires information from an earlier tax year. FAFSA applicants (and their parents, if appropriate) must report the prior year’s income information.  For the 2022–2023 school year, applicants (and their parents, if applicable) must report income information for 2020. (See table.) For the 2021–2022 school year, applicants (and their parents, if appropriate) must report income information for 2019. (See table.)

If you have not yet filed your prior year taxes (2020 taxes for the 2022-2023 school year and 2019 taxes for the 2021-2022 school year), you can estimate your income on the FAFSA form. The FAFSA4caster gives you an estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid. The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet also provides you and your family a preview of the questions you may be asked while completing the FAFSA form.

Please be as accurate as possible when using theFAFSA4caster or completing the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet. Variances with finalized information can result in an adjusted award. You will need to log back into the FAFSA once your prior year taxes are complete and correct the information.

The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet is not the financial aid application. It is merely a guide to help you complete FAFSA on the Web, and should not be submitted to Federal Student Aid.
