Raised in Cuba where she received her elementary and secondary education, Dr. McKenzie has taught at Andrews University and Southwestern Michigan Community College in Michigan, Crafton Hills College, San Bernardino Valley College, California State University in San Bernardino and Loma Linda University in California before coming to Washington Adventist University (WAU). She is a Board Certified Registered nurse and pharmacist with 10 years experience in nursing practice and 5 years experience as a pharmacist with Walgreens. Currently she teaches Pharmacology in the Edyth T. James Department of Nursing and Anatomy & Physiology in the Department of Biology at Washington Adventist University.
Research and Professional Activities:
Her research has been focused in the “Role of Protein Synthesis in Development using the Purple Sea Urchins as a Model” She has also collaborated in clinical research in the acute care setting to determine the “Medication use for CHF exacerbation in the acute setting.” (submitted for publication 2013)
Dr. McKenzie is currently exploring collaborative research opportunities with PepVax, Inc (www.pepvax.co) a biotechnology company in Bethesda, MD that develops peptide vaccine candidates for cancer treatment.
