Washington Adventist University Hosts 3rd Bi-Annual Seventh-day Adventist Directors of Athletics Conference
TAKOMA PARK, Md. (July 29, 2026) — Washington Adventist University proudly hosted the 3rd Bi-Annual Seventh-day Adventist Directors of Athletics Conference from July 23–27, bringing together athletic leaders from across the Seventh-day Adventist higher education system for five days of collaboration, fellowship, and strategic planning.
Centered on the theme found in Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain,” the conference emphasized the importance of faith-centered leadership while exploring innovative ways to enhance the student-athlete experience throughout Adventist higher education.
Representatives from Walla Walla University, La Sierra University, Andrews University, Pacific Union University, and host institution Washington Adventist University participated in a series of meetings focused on the future of Adventist athletics. Discussions centered on identifying new funding opportunities that will strengthen athletic programs and provide greater support for student-athletes both on and off the field of play.
A major highlight of the conference was the continued development of a collaborative initiative among the participating institutions—an ambitious project that has the potential to be groundbreaking for the future of Seventh-day Adventist collegiate athletics. While details remain in development, the Directors of Athletics expressed enthusiasm about the possibilities and their shared commitment to advancing athletics within the Adventist educational system.
In addition to the strategic meetings, attendees experienced the rich history and culture of the nation’s capital through visits to several of Washington, D.C.‘s most iconic destinations, including the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. These excursions provided opportunities for fellowship, reflection, and a deeper appreciation of the nation’s heritage.
As the conference concluded, attendees departed with renewed purpose, strengthened partnerships, and a collective vision for continued growth across their athletic programs. The group also announced that the 4th Bi-Annual Seventh-day Adventist Directors of Athletics Conference will be hosted in San Antonio, Texas, where discussions and collaborative efforts will continue.
The Seventh-day Adventist Directors of Athletics Conference serves as a platform for athletic administrators to share best practices, develop strategic initiatives, and strengthen the mission of Adventist higher education through athletics. By working together, these institutions remain committed to creating transformative experiences that positively impact student-athletes for generations to come.
