WAU’s Alumni Weekend Speaker Ted Wilson to be Inducted into the Business Wall of Fame

Takoma Park, Md. (April 4, 2017) WAU Alumnus Ted N.C. Wilson, President of the General Conference Seventh-day Adventist World Church and featured speaker at the Washington Adventist University (WAU) Alumni and Parents Weekend, April 6-9, will be inducted into the WAU Department of Business & Communication Wall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m. in Morrison Hall (Bldg. 9 on the campus map).

Wilson is being honored by Washington Adventist University for his consistent commitment to the Christian leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and for promoting the worldwide reach of the gospel. He was elected President of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church in July 2010, during the General Conference Session in Atlanta. As an ordained pastor, he has served in ministries in New York; Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa; and Moscow, Russia. Wilson graduated from Washington Adventist University (then known as Columbia Union College) in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion and business administration.

Prior to his induction into the Wall of Fame, Wilson will speak at 11:15 a.m. at Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church during the Sabbath worship service. This weekend’s Alumni and Parents events also include a free concert on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church that will feature WAU’s Columbia Collegiate Chorale and New England Youth Ensemble, performing the Requiem by contemporary English composer John Rutter. In addition, there will be performances of other choral and orchestral selections from the classics, spirituals and hymns. The concert will also be streamed live at sligochurch.org/media .

On Sunday, April 9, from noon to 5 p.m., the annual Family Fun Festival for the community will be held on the Campus Commons – the open area between Flower Avenue and Washington Adventist Hospital. The free event, to be held rain or shine, will feature live music, food and family entertainment, and it will be staged with support from the City of Takoma Park and sponsors such as WGTS 91.9, Washington Adventist Hospital and the local business community. WGTS music artists will be showcased, and there will be health screenings, food from local restaurants and caterers, a petting zoo, fitness camp, bounce house and a gymnastics show by the University’s Acro-Airs team.

There is a schedule of additional Alumni and Parents Weekend events online. Most are free and open to anyone interested in attending. Washington Adventist University is Montgomery County’s only four-year private college.
