TAKOMA PARK, Md. — Washington Adventist University once again demonstrated its commitment to faith, service, and community engagement through its Spring 2026 Service Day, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and campus leaders for a day dedicated to serving communities across the Washington metropolitan area.

Scheduled as one of the university’s signature service-learning initiatives, Service Day reflects WAU’s mission as “The Gateway to Service” by providing opportunities for the campus community to actively engage in meaningful outreach projects that address social, health, environmental, and community needs.

More than 20 service projects took place throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia, offering participants opportunities to serve through health promotion, beautification projects, food distribution, music ministry, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

Projects for the Spring 2026 Service Day included partnerships with organizations such as Adventist Community Services, A Wider Circle, Food & Friends, the Capital Area Food Bank, Friends of Sligo Creek, Shepherd’s Table, and several Seventh-day Adventist churches throughout the region.

Students in specialized academic programs also participated in discipline-specific outreach initiatives. Nursing students provided free health screenings and wellness promotion activities at multiple locations, while music students participated in ministry and outreach performances at nursing homes, hospitals, and community centers.

The university had strong participation from across campus, including student leaders serving as Service Day assistants to help coordinate logistics and engagement throughout the day.

Service Day has become a longstanding tradition at WAU, reinforcing the institution’s emphasis on service-learning and community impact. Through these experiences, students are encouraged to connect classroom learning with practical service while building relationships with the communities they serve.
