Biography:

John McGinness is the Principal Bass Trombonist of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and the Charlottesville Opera Orchestra and is a member of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra. John performs throughout Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic and has been a guest musician with the orchestras of Richmond, Lancaster, Harrisburg, the Kennedy Center, the Wolf Trap Orchestra, and the National Symphony. John can be heard on commercial recordings with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Trombone Ensemble, and the Atlantic Chamber Winds.

John serves on the faculty of Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, MD, and leads a private trombone studio in Fairfax County, VA. John is also a low brass clinician for Fairfax County Public Schools and was the brass coach for The Capital Symphonic Youth Orchestras during the 2019/20 school year. In recent years John has presented masterclasses and recitals at the University of Delaware, Towson University, Shepherd University (WV), and Virginia Tech University.   

A native Texan, John holds degrees from the University of Houston and Southern Methodist University and currently lives with his family in Northern Virginia.
