Dear WAU Learning Community:

I am informing you that Vice President Richard Castillo has accepted a call to serve the Potomac Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Please join me in congratulating him on this new opportunity for him and his family. This is an exciting time for them.  Please also join me in expressing our deep appreciation to him for his significant contributions to the University over the past few years relative to branding, website development, and the many ways he creatively informs the world of the many programs, events, and opportunities here for learning at Washington Adventist University. A place where we engage minds and transform lives near the nation’s capital. His last workday at WAU will be January 7, 2022.
During the search processes to replace the two open positions in the Integrated Marketing and Communication department, Mr. Everett S. Wiles will serve in an interim capacity as the Vice President for Integrated Marketing and Communication effective December 20, 2021. This timing will overlap with Mr. Castillo to make the transition smooth so that there is no loss in service to the learning community. In addition, we are continuing the search process for the director for copy editing and our partnership with Marstudio.

Mr. Wiles is an experienced leader and faculty in media, communication, and public relations. His experience includes being the production coordinator for more than 100 episodes of content for the HOPE Channel through the Project Hope Initiative, Assistant Professor for Visual Arts, Communication and Design at Andrews University, and extensive experience in managing and supervising projects and people in a higher education setting. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Communication Arts with honors and a Master of Arts in Production and Media Management from the New York Institute of Technology. He won the Communicator Award for best director/best producer for a documentary on a Holocaust Survivor entitled “One Survivor’s Story.”

During the next few weeks, I will be working closely with Mr. Castillo, Mr. Wiles, and our senior leadership team to ensure a smooth transition and seamless continuity in integrated marketing and communication.

Sincerely,

Weymouth Spence
President
