Pre-Law Dinner Celebrates Its 10th Year
Takoma Park, MD (October 4, 2018) The Center for Law and Public Policy hosted its 10th Annual Attorney Pre-Law Student Dinner on September 23. Natalie Hynum, Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City, was the speaker of the evening.
Hynum, a 2010 graduate of Washington Adventist University (WAU), graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Pre-Law, and a minor in Psychology. During her time at the university, she was a member of the honors program, and the honors board, captain and lead Attorney of the Mock Trial Team. Hynum currently prosecutes homicide cases and attempted murders for the city of Baltimore.
During the evening, Dr. Joan Francis, chair of the History Department, was recognized for the pivotal role she has played. In 2008 she founded the annual pre-law dinner, which continues to promote opportunities for mentorship among WAU students and area attorneys. She travels with the mock trial team to their competitions, sponsors civic activities and presents lectures and film series.
The center for Law and Public Policy was founded in 1998 and remains devoted to its three purposes: encouraging young Adventists to consider careers in law and public policy, fostering fellowship amount Adventist attorneys and demonstrating how Adventist can be effective advocates for moral change in society. The Pre-Law Club is open to all Washington Adventist University students. The club serves students who plan to pursue a legal education or who are interested in law.
Washington Adventist University is Montgomery County’s only four-year private college. Part of the Seventh-day Adventist system of higher education, Washington Adventist University has been educating college students since 1904 on a 19-acre campus in suburban Takoma Park, close to the nation’s capital. Approximately 1,100 students of all faiths participate in the university’s nine graduate and 42 undergraduate programs. The 2017 edition of U.S. News & World Report ranked Washington Adventist University among the best regional colleges in the north.
