Washington Adventist University Hosts Alumni Weekend April 7-10, 2016

Takoma Park, MD (April 1, 2016) Washington Adventist University’s Alumni Weekend is April 7-10, and the upcoming Alumni Weekend at Washington Adventist University will be held from April 7 – 10. The weekend will include a host of activities and opportunities to renew old friendships and make new ones, and to revisit favorite places on campus. This year’s Alumni Weekend event will honor the classes of 2006, 1996, 1991, 1986, 1976, 1966, 1961, 1956, 1951 and 1946, and the featured speaker will be Pastor Eugene Kitney from the Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Thursday, April 7
Weekend activities will kick off with a 7:30 p.m. Social on Thursday, April 7 in Wilkinson Hall, featuring pizza, prizes and fun for the entire family.

Friday, April 8
Events on Friday, April 8 include a Cherry Blossom Tour that departs at 11 a.m. from the Halcyon Hall parking lot and returns at 3 p.m. A 5 p.m. President’s Reception at The Votaw House, 7633 Carroll Avenue, will feature light refreshments and a chance to meet with President Spence and Alumni Association leadership. Following will be a 7 p.m. Reflections vespers at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church Sanctuary, and an 8:45 p.m. Singsperation Vespers at the Student Activity Center.

Saturday, April 9
An 8 a.m. Nursing Alumni Breakfast and an 8:45 Early Worship Service kick off activities on Saturday, April 9. Tickets are required for the 11 a.m. Alumni Luncheon at Wilkinson Hall, and departmental open houses will be held from 3 – 5 p.m.

The Alumni Awards Ceremony and Reception will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church Sanctuary. The accomplishments of this year’s awardees will be recognized, and Maryland Adjutant General Linda Singh and Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot will be among those honored at the event.

A Young Alumni Reunion will follow at 8 p.m. on the Athletic Field, where graduates of the past 15 years, the young at heart and current students will participate in an Alumni vs. Student Kick Ball game.

Sunday, April 10
Registration for the Mission-Airs 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m., and the race will start at 10 a.m., supporting WAU’s ministry projects and the Acro-Airs health ministry. Families, children and dogs are welcome, and same-day registration is available.

An Alumni Association Business Meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Commuter Lounge of the Dining Hall in Wilkinson Hall. The election of new board members and the new initiatives of the Alumni Association will be discussed, and President Spence and Provost Cheryl Kisunzu will share updates from the university.

The Annual WAU Family Fun Festival will be held from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on the Commons. Featured will be performances by Ashes Remain and the Acro-Airs sports team. Alumni are encourage to stop by the Alumni booth for a special gift.

A 7 p.m. Acro-Airs Home Show will be held in the gymnasium, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Featured will be new routines and new moves that have never before been performed, along with performances by special guests. At 9 p.m., an event for alumni of the Acro-Airs team will be held in the Student Activity Center for a “flipping good reunion.”
