The WAU Faculty String Quartet and Soprano Ana Aguilar (‘22) was asked to perform at the Healthcare Council’s 75th Anniversary Gala held at the Bethesda North Marriott recently. This event featured the awarding of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Francis Collins, Past Director of the National Institutes of Health and current science advisor to President Joe Biden. Among those paying tribute to Dr. Collins, included Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Collins discussed his role as NIH director, including allocating $20 million to research the field of Music and Medicine. As a tribute to Dr. Collins’s advocacy for this field, the WAU Faculty String Quartet and Soprano Ana Aguilar (‘22) was asked to perform Over the Rainbow. Before performing this, we were proud to share with Dr. Collins and all the dignitaries present about WAU’s Music Therapy program.
“It was a real privilege to be able to share with this esteemed group of dignitaries and Healthcare leaders about our world-class Music Therapy program,” said Dr. Brian Liu.
The WAU Faculty String Quartet is made up of WAU music faculty members Dr. Preston Hawes, Dr. Brian Liu, Dr. Dan Zhang, and Professor Stephen Czarkowski. The Healthcare Council is an association of healthcare providers, schools and health-related institutions serving the Mid-Atlantic region.
