Biography:

Melissa E. Buckley, MSW is the Director of Field Education and Assistant Professor for the Andrews University Social Work Program at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland.

Dr. Buckley earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama and then went on to The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to earn her Master’s degree in Social Work. And as of October 2018, Melissa Buckley has completed the requirements for her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from Morgan State University.

Prior to Washington Adventist University, Buckley was an adjunct professor at Miles College in Birmingham, AL as well as Humber College in Toronto, Canada. She has extensive experience working as a Foster Care Social Worker, a Therapist working with children and families, and as a Clinical Director of a program for grieving children. Additionally, she has served on various boards of directors whose emphasis was to enhance and empower the community. She is the Founder of a non-profit organization for at risk adolescent girls. Perhaps one of her most proud accomplishments was being a Foster Parent for teenage mothers and their babies.

Dr. Buckley has a keen interest in researching the emerging social trends impacting the Black Family dynamic in addition to researching grieving in minority groups
