Meet Zandile Mawela / WAU Theology Student
Zandile Mawela is a third-year Theology student at Washington Adventist University whose life is guided by a deep commitment to Christian ministry and service. Originally from South Africa, she describes herself as a servant of God, dedicated to following His leading wherever He calls. Her journey to Washington Adventist University was born out of prayer and a growing conviction that God was calling her into ministry. Through faith and perseverance, doors opened for her to pursue that calling at WAU.
Since arriving on campus, Zandile has embraced every opportunity for growth. Academically, spiritually, and personally, she has found Washington Adventist University to be a place where her faith has deepened and her understanding of ministry has expanded. She values the diverse community at WAU, where she has built meaningful relationships with students from many cultures while developing a greater appreciation for service and leadership.
Despite the blessings she has experienced, Zandile’s journey has not been without challenges. Financial hardship has been her greatest obstacle, with recurring financial holds often threatening her ability to continue her education. Yet through each difficulty, she has witnessed what she describes as God’s faithful provision through scholarships and the generosity of others. These experiences have strengthened her trust in God and reinforced her belief that He faithfully provides for those He calls.
Receiving scholarship support has meant far more than financial assistance. For Zandile, it represents hope, encouragement, and a tangible reminder that God sees her needs and works through people to make His plans possible. The support has allowed her to focus on her studies, ministry opportunities, and personal development rather than the overwhelming burden of financial uncertainty.
Looking ahead, Zandile remains committed to answering God’s call to ministry with humility and faithfulness. She continues to view her education at Washington Adventist University as preparation for a lifetime of service, carrying with her a testimony of perseverance, faith, and gratitude for the opportunities God has provided along the way.
The number one challenge many students face each year is finding a way to afford their education. Almost all WAU students receive some type of financial aid, yet most students still struggle to bridge the gap between tuition and what their financial aid covers. Despite the challenge, of paying for higher education, these students want to attend a university where Christ is the center of their education.
90 percent of all undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid.
60 percent of students take out federal loans.
45 percent of students receive the federal Pell Grant for low-income families.
Every dollar donated has a positive impact on each student at WAU.
Together, fulfilling the Vision for 2030 is a glorious possibility.
Make a gift to support student scholarships to help students like Zandile.
Please help close their financial gap.

Infrastructure for the 21st Century Campus
Much of our current buildings can no longer meet the demands of a 21st Century university campus. They have served the campus well over the last hundred years. It is now time to redevelop the campus for the next hundred years. We are currently working with Montgomery County on new zoning to facilitate campus development. To remain competitive and cost-effective, we must address our academic and student residence buildings and facilities.
