History Made: WAU Men’s Soccer Team Soars to First Ever Continental Athletic Conference Championship Tournament
TAKOMA PARK, MD — The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men’s soccer team has achieved a historic milestone by securing their inaugural spot in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championships. The team, known as the Shock, ended their record-winning season with a remarkable 10-4-2 score, netting a striking 77 goals.
Under the leadership of head coach Daniel Carroll in his sophomore year, the Shock has displayed extraordinary resilience, with a roster representing eleven nationalities. The team’s diverse lineup, from the South American flair to the European discipline, has confounded rivals all season.
Standout players include George Tidmarsh with 13 goals and the 2023 CAC Offensive Player of the Week honor. Aidan Hidassy has been pivotal in creating scoring opportunities, and goalkeeper Gregorio Capponi, with two CAC Defensive Player of the Week recognitions, has recorded 43 saves.
The Shock is set to compete in the CAC Championships in Lawrenceville, Georgia, next week, determined to leave a legacy in their program’s history. Coach Carroll praises his team’s unity and determination, emphasizing their diversity as a key strength and expressing optimism for their upcoming matches.
