TAKOMA PARK, MD – In a bid to enrich its curriculum and make the most of resources in the nation’s capital, Washington Adventist University’s Department of Business and Communication visited the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on October 27, 2023.

The delegation of 31 business major students, led by faculty members Dr. Patrick Williams, Dr. John Okon, Dr. Andrea Baldwin, Dr. Satyanarayana Ramella, and Dr. Andrew Smith, received a warm welcome from IMF representatives Ms. OrracaTetteh, Ms. Zhu Weijie, and Mr. Amit Khaterpaul.
Mr. Amit Khaterpaul, the communications officer at the IMF, presented an in-depth overview of the institution. He covered its founding, its central role in aiding economies in distress, the debates surrounding its policy prescriptions, and its efforts towards global poverty alleviation.
Josue DesJardins, an accounting major at Washington Adventist University, remarked, “This was a genuinely enlightening learning experience; I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
For many students, especially those keenly interested in global economic events, the visit offered a clearer perspective on the IMF’s vital function in assisting countries with balance of payment difficulties.

Concluding the informative session, the IMF staff distributed copies of their most recent quarterly journal to the attendees, a gesture that emphasized their commitment to education and fostering a better understanding of the institution’s global role.
Washington Adventist University’s Department of Business and Communication remains steadfast in its mission to blend academic learning with real-world experiences, ensuring their students are well-prepared for the challenges of the future.
