WAU Student Performs with Andrea Bocelli at the Kennedy Center on National TV Before Worldwide Audience
Written by: IMC Director Simonique Dietz
Washington Adventist University student Alejandra Anzola took the national stage Friday night, performing alongside world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The performance, broadcast internationally ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw on Dec. 5, 2025, reached millions of viewers around the globe.
Anzola, a dual major in Biology and Music Performance from Venezuela, appeared on stage with her sister, Veronica, a former WAU student who now studies engineering at another institution. The sisters were selected after previously performing at Carnegie Hall as part of the prestigious Carnegie Scholars Program, directed by Dr. Preston Hawes, professor of music, violin, and director of orchestral studies at WAU.
The performance placed the sisters among an elite group of musicians supporting Bocelli’s stirring musical tribute to the global spirit of the World Cup. A number of celebrities attended the event, including NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who posed for a photo with the Anzola sisters backstage.
