After a long and careful process that involved 70 considered names, Pastor Alex Barrientos has been appointed to serve as Sligo Church’s next Senior Pastor. Pastor Barrientos is currently servicing as Associate Pastor at the Spring Meadows Seventh-day Adventist Church in Florida, with responsibility for evangelism and discipleship. Reputed for his scholarship and practical application of the gospel, Barrientos is a graduate of Takoma Academy and Washington Adventist University. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University and is a Ph.D. student at Aberdeen University in Scotland, reading Theology and Ethics.

Pastor Barrientos is married to Anisha and has a daughter, Shanthi Maria.

Pastor Barrientos served in the Potomac Conference prior to accepting a call to Florida. His friends, colleagues, and former teachers all highlight his thoughtful and engaging Biblical preaching and a proven commitment to inclusive ministry, all ministry gifts and qualities that you highlighted during our listening sessions. The Senior Pastor Search Committee, The Sligo Church Board, the Potomac Conference Personnel Committee, and the Potomac Conference Executive Committee all concluded that he is an excellent fit for Sligo.

Special commendation is due to the Search Committee of 11 people who were chosen from various sections of our church membership. Their prayerful and methodical approach has drawn the admiration of many in our church, including myself, and of several churches across the United States. The Search Committee was led exceptionally well by retired church administrator and pastor, Chuck Sandefur. Three cheers to the Search committee!

His inauguration at Sligo will take place on October 9.
