This upcoming weekend, September 17th – 19th, will be a momentous occasion dedicated to honoring our students, faculty and staff, alumni, and valuable board members, sponsors, donors, and friends of Washington Adventist University. We will have four distinguished events for this Dedication Weekend: the Board of Trustees Meeting, a Sabbath Dedication, the Henry & Sharon Fordham Department of Religion Naming Ceremony, and the 2021 Visionaries Gala.
To start the weekend, Friday, September 17th, at 9:30 am, will be the Board of Trustees Meeting, where the Board Trustees will receive a fully guided tour of our beautiful campus. Vespers will be held at 7:30 pm in the Student Activity Center.
On September 18th, at 11 am during the regular Sabbath service at Sligo SDA Church, there will be a special dedication and prayer for WAU and its faculty and staff to bring blessings into the 2021-22 school year. Later, on the H.M.S. Richards Hall Lawn at 4 pm, WAU will hold the Henry & Sharon Fordham Department of Religion Naming Ceremony. This ceremony will be to honor the legacy of Henry and Sharon Fordham’s ministry and further inspire students to lead by their example.
On Sunday, September 19th, at 6 pm, WAU will hold the 8th Annual Visionaries Gala at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD. This year’s theme is Distinctive Excellence in Student Success, which reflects the Vision 2030 – Distinctive Excellence in Student Success initiative. The major priorities for this vision are to launch a campaign to renovate the Science Building into a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Laboratory Building and to help fund student scholarships. The evening will be in celebration and honor of our four honorees; Congressman Jamie Raskin, Georgette “Gigi” Godwin, Dr. Beverly Anderson, and Dr. Ronald Anderson; who exemplify excellence through their hard work and commitment to service.
We hope to see you there and look forward to each of the events our Dedication Weekend has to bring!
