TAKOMA PARK, Md. — A powerful testimony of faith and redemption was shared at a recent convocation at Washington Adventist University (WAU), where guest speaker Garret Adams recounted his personal journey from academic excellence to incarceration and, ultimately, to a life of faith and purpose.

Adams, a former WAU student, detailed his struggles with poor decision-making that led to his arrest and imprisonment. Raised in a family of faith, Adams excelled in academics and was actively involved in campus activities. However, he found himself making choices that led to a downward spiral.

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death,” Adams said, quoting Proverbs 14:12 as he reflected on his past decisions.

His journey took an unexpected turn when law enforcement officers apprehended him, leading to a conviction and a lengthy prison sentence. Adams described the moment of his arrest as life-altering, recalling the overwhelming sense of regret and despair. However, during his time in prison, he recommitted his life to God and vowed to use his experience to help others avoid similar pitfalls.

Upon his release, Adams pursued his education, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in 2020. He now works in government service and dedicates his time to mentoring young people, urging them to make wise choices.

“Do not make permanent decisions based on temporary circumstances,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of faith and discernment.

Adams’ testimony resonated deeply with students and faculty, serving as a reminder of God’s grace and the power of redemption. His story, marked by struggles, perseverance, and transformation, underscored the significance of making conscious, faith-driven choices.

The convocation concluded with a prayer, encouraging attendees to seek God in all aspects of their lives and to choose faith daily. Adams’ journey stands as a testament to resilience, second chances, and the unwavering love of God.
