Krista Byrd Rodriguez Named Head Women’s Soccer Coach

Washington Adventist University Director of Athletics Jered Lyons has announced the hiring of Krista Byrd Rodriguez ’11 as Head Women’s Soccer Coach. Coach Rodriguez has previously served at WAU as an Admissions Counselor for six years. During her time at WAU, she was responsible for the recruitment of many student-athletes. Coach Rodriguez played on the soccer team for four seasons and was named All-American during her final season. A gifted athlete she also played basketball and ran track for WAU. She graduated with a BS in Physical Education & Health, Fitness, and Wellness.

“I am excited to welcome Coach Rodriguez back home to WAU. She has an incredible work ethic & is a proven recruiter. I look forward to seeing how she will grow our women’s program. She has a passion for her Alma Mater and her energy is contagious,” stated WAU Director of Athletics Jered Lyons. “Coach Rodriguez will do an exceptional job at connecting the women’s soccer program with the community. Most importantly she will do an excellent job at building relationships with her players and equipping them with the necessary tools to be successful on and off the field.” 

Coach Rodriguez is currently co-owner of StrengthIn Me Fitness with her husband. It’s a mobile fitness company based out of Prince George’s County in Maryland that launched in 2017. She is certified through NASM and holds a certification for being a Strength & Conditioning Coach/ Personal trainer and also specializes in creating nutrition plans. 

“I am extremely honored to be chosen as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach. First and foremost I have to thank God. Without Him, none of this is possible. Big shoutouts to all of my former players, teammates, and coaches for helping me gain the tools for success.” said Rodriguez. ” Being an assistant for many years, it feels empowering to now be a Head Coach and leader of women. I wouldn’t want to start this journey anywhere else.” 

Coach Rodriguez will begin her duties immediately. The squad is set to begin the season on August, 31 on the road against Emory & Henry College.
