Picture Perfect Chemistry! Celebrating National Chemistry Week at WAU

Written by: IMC Director Simonique Dietz

When was the last time you took a picture or had an MRI scan? In those moments, you were using chemistry! This year, National Chemistry Week celebrates “Picture Perfect Chemistry,” highlighting the science behind photography and medical imaging.

From October 20-28, 2024, the Biology and Chemistry Department at Washington Adventist University (WAU) invites you to Weis Library for a special display. The department’s Senior Seminar class will display posters and models exploring photochemistry and medical imaging. Additionally, those interested in more information can visit the American Chemical Society’s National Chemistry Week webpage to learn more about this exciting field.

WAU’s Department of Biology and Chemistry, under the leadership of Dr. Melinda Villanueva, offers robust programs designed to prepare students for careers in medicine, research, and more. The department emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world experience through laboratory experiments and research projects. Students pursuing degrees in biology and chemistry at WAU are equipped with the critical thinking and scientific skills necessary to succeed in fields such as healthcare, environmental science, and biochemical research.

Special thanks to Weis Library for hosting the National Chemistry Week displays and supporting the University’s mission of integrating academic and professional growth with community engagement.
