WAU Athletics Forms Partnership with Apex Performance Therapy

TAKOMA PARK, Md.— Washington Adventist University (WAU) has officially partnered with Apex Performance Therapy, a physical therapy practice specializing in sports and orthopedic injuries, to provide comprehensive care to its athletes. The collaboration, established in September 2024, is set to enhance the university’s athletic program through rehabilitative services, strength and conditioning programs, and sideline coverage at athletic events.

Apex Performance Therapy, founded in 2019 by Dr. Edwin Joyner, is based in North Bethesda, Maryland, and focuses on evidence-based rehabilitation services for athletes and active individuals. “Our mission at Apex is to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and training, helping athletes achieve their full potential,” said Joyner, a Takoma Park native who has previously worked with WAU’s athletes from 2014 to 2015. The partnership stemmed from Apex’s outreach to WAU to address a growing need for advanced rehabilitation and training services within the athletic department.

With this new partnership, WAU athletes will benefit from treatment room hours for rehabilitation, a comprehensive strength and conditioning program, and sideline coverage during games, meets, and competitions. Additionally, WAU students interested in sports medicine will have access to internship opportunities, further strengthening the university’s commitment to experiential learning.

“We are excited about the opportunity to provide WAU’s athletes with exceptional care and help prevent and treat injuries,” Joyner stated. “Together, we aim to develop a thorough program to ensure athletes return to their sport as quickly and safely as possible, while also minimizing the overall occurrence of injuries.”

This partnership underscores WAU’s dedication to fostering the success and well-being of its student-athletes, both on and off the field.
