Washington Adventist University 2024 Open Convocation Recap

TAKOMA PARK – Washington Adventist University (WAU) opened the new year with a thrilling convocation, motivating the WAU family to embrace this new semester with trust in God’s plans. This year, WAU celebrates a milestone achievement: 120 Years of Service. The private institution has grown considerably since its inception in 1904, becoming the home of brilliant students committed to success.
Students have returned from their break, and the convocation program offered them a warm welcome. President Spence was the first speaker to inaugurate the WAU campus, highlighting the school’s principle of preparing students to work and live for eternity.

Henrique Da Silva, President of the Students Association, rode the wave of enthusiasm, sharing inspiring words with a special mention for the senior class graduating this semester. The sweet epilogue of his speech was from Joshua 3:5, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

An emotional service was accompanied by the contribution of the WAU choir, which delighted the audience with musical interludes. Director Anwar Ottley led WAU music major students in the performance of “Swing Down Chariot” and “Come by Here.”

In the interim, Biology Professor Melinda Villanueva shared an impactful passage from Exodus 34:10. Following her, Dr. Kisunzu, the school’s Provost, delivered a stirring speech about embracing the ‘New Things’ that lie ahead. This concluding message inspired the students to eagerly anticipate and positively pursue new opportunities and experiences.
Words of prayer concluded the first convocation of the year, leaving Washington Adventist University with revitalized energy as it celebrates its 120th-anniversary milestone. With high expectations for 2024, WAU is poised to aim for significant achievements.
