Washington Adventist University Enactus Team Moves on to National Exposition May 15-17 in St. Louis
Takoma Park, Maryland (April 7, 2016) Washington Adventist University (WAU) business students competed successfully in the 2016 Enactus Regional Competition on March 29 in Washington, D.C., and they are now scheduled to compete in the Enactus National Exposition that will be held May 15-17 in St. Louis, Missouri.
In the regional competition, the university’s Enactus team presented to a group of judges the ten projects they initiated to help local business owners with creative solutions to problems. The projects included the Flower Face Lift project, focused on helping immigrant families and businesses, a small business symposium on branding, and a tutoring program for kindergarten to fourth-graders where children receive homework help while parents do their laundry. During the 2014-2015 school year, 38 students volunteered more than 3,700 hours on the various projects.
Erica McKitty, a senior who is majoring in accounting, said, “Enactus offered me an outlet to serve the community while helping me to pick a career path in business. Working with Enactus has taught me discipline.”
McKitty believes she will be able to apply all she’s learned after graduation when she begins her career. She has already accepted a job offer with Adventist Health Systems.
At last year’s national competition, Washington Adventist University’s Enactus team placed third.
