Takoma Park, Maryland (April 7, 2016) Approximately 270 Washington Adventist University students, faculty and staff dedicated Wednesday, April 6 to serving the community during the university’s Service Day, which is held every semester.

The Spring Semester Service Day featured a dozen projects that were directly aligned with the needs of the Silver Spring, Langley Park and Takoma Park neighborhoods. The projects included painting, removing trash, cleaning shopping areas, preparing meals at a food bank, helping teachers in their classrooms and cleaning school grounds.

“I participated in Service Day because it is a requirement, and I was interested in seeing the Frost School, which is where I went,” said Imani Kindred, who is majoring in social work. “I learned the importance of why we often perform manual services during Service Day. Sometimes the locations we serve are not able to afford maintaining their properties.”

WAU seeks to demonstrate its “Gateway to Service” motto by routinely engaging its campus family in service activities.
