Washington Adventist University Holds Convocation Ceremony

Takoma Park, MD (AP) — Washington Adventist University(WAU) kicked off its second vibrant convocation ceremony this Wednesday, welcoming students, faculty, and staff for a day of reflection and community engagement.

The convocation, held weekly, aims to foster personal, professional, and spiritual development among the university community.

University leaders reminded attendees of the importance of checking in and out via the university app to ensure attendance is properly recorded. They also emphasized that all students must have health insurance by September 30 to participate in campus activities. New students were encouraged to pick up their handbooks to understand university policies.

The ceremony featured the introduction of the new WAU Chaplain Dr. Jiwan Moon, who will lead weekly convocation services. Attendees then enjoyed a spirited worship session led by a music team, focusing on songs of praise and reflection.

Professor Alvin Fuentes and his mission team, shared experiences from a recent student mission trip to El Salvador. The trip included outreach activities and support for a struggling church with only six members. Despite challenges, the group successfully engaged with the community, attracting over 200 attendees and making a significant impact.

Looking ahead, the university plans to organize another mission trip to El Salvador and Guatemala and invites students and staff to participate.

The event concluded with a call for more time to worship and an invitation to special Sabbath morning worship services at the Student Activity Center on Sabbath, September 14, 2024 at 10 a.m. Dr. Weymouth Spence, president of the university will deliver his sermon during the divine worship service.
