WAU Announces Historic Jersey Sponsorship with GDH Law for Women’s Basketball

Written by: Erica Calhoun

Washington Adventist University (WAU) is proud to announce a landmark partnership with GDH Law, a prominent Maryland-based law firm, as the first-ever jersey sponsor exclusively for the Women’s Basketball program. This strategic collaboration places WAU among a select group of NAIA institutions embracing jersey sponsorship — a growing trend in collegiate athletics.

GDH Law, with offices in Lanham and Rockville, Maryland, is led by Gwen-Marie Davis-Hicks, the firm’s founding and managing partner. The firm specializes in personal injury, business organization, and civil litigation, consistently delivering results with a client-first approach.

“Giving back is just what I do. It’s the essence of my being. When you give back to others it makes what you do much more meaningful.”
Gwen-Marie Davis-Hicks, Founder & Managing Partner, GDH Law

This sentiment aligns deeply with WAU’s mission and the values of its athletics department. The partnership represents more than a jersey sponsor — it is a celebration of service, leadership, and community impact.

Jered Lyons, Athletic Director at WAU, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“Gwen is an inspiration to all! Her work ethic and how she values relationships is unmatched. GDHLaw is the perfect sponsor to lead us into this new era of college athletics. We are grateful for her generosity.”

As a proud WAU alum, Davis-Hicks’ support carries special significance. Her leadership in the legal field, community advocacy, and mentorship embodies the excellence WAU strives to model for its student-athletes.

The jersey partnership will debut during the upcoming season, giving WAU Women’s Basketball national visibility as one of the few NAIA teams with an official jersey sponsor. This partnership also reinforces WAU’s commitment to elevating the student-athlete experience and building meaningful relationships with alumni and local organizations.
