Washington Adventist University Appoints Dr. Jercilla Murmu as Director of Nursing

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — Washington Adventist University (WAU) has appointed Dr. Jercilla Murmu, DNP, MSN, RN, CNE, as the new Director of the Department of Nursing, effective immediately.
Dr. Murmu brings more than 26 years of nursing experience to the position, including 12 years of dedicated service at Washington Adventist University. Since 2023, she has served as Associate Director of Nursing, following her appointment in 2020 as Associate Professor of Nursing and Simulation Coordinator. Throughout her tenure, she has played a key role in advancing nursing education, strengthening clinical training, and mentoring future healthcare professionals.
She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Education from Southern Adventist University and a Master of Science in Nursing from Washington Adventist University. As a Certified Nurse Educator, Dr. Murmu has been recognized multiple times by the Maryland Higher Education Commission for excellence in teaching and her positive impact on student success.
A lifelong Seventh-day Adventist, Dr. Murmu is committed to integrating faith, service, and professional excellence in nursing education. She is passionate about equipping students with the knowledge, clinical skills, and compassionate spirit needed to serve diverse communities while reflecting Christ’s love through healthcare.
The Department of Nursing is one of Washington Adventist University’s flagship programs, recognized for preparing highly skilled nursing professionals who serve in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organizations throughout the region and beyond.
