TAKOMA PARK, Md. — Washington Adventist University (WAU) has launched a newly established Psychology Club, offering students a space to explore human behavior, advocate for mental health awareness, and engage in wellness initiatives on campus and in the broader community.

The Psychology Club aims to foster a deeper understanding of psychological principles that influence daily life, from managing stress and decision-making to improving relationships and emotional well-being. Open to students of all majors, the club provides opportunities for discussion, professional engagement, and events focused on behavioral science and human development.

“As mental health becomes an increasingly important topic, having a dedicated space to reflect on psychological research, concepts, and real-life applications is more critical than ever,” the club stated.

Engaging Events and Initiatives

The club has planned a series of events to encourage student participation. Psychology Spirit Week, scheduled for Feb. 17-21, will promote self-love and confidence by encouraging students to coordinate outfits with peers. Additionally, the club will host its inaugural open-mic night on Feb. 24 at the Student Activity Center, where participants can share affirmations, poetry, and personal experiences related to self-esteem and resilience.

Beyond events, the club serves as a resource for students pursuing psychology-related careers. Members will have opportunities to network with faculty and professionals, engage in discussions on social causes, and contribute to conversations about mental health, equality, and public well-being.

Dedicated Wellness Space

The WAU Department of Psychology and Counseling has designated a space for students to engage in wellness activities beyond the classroom. The room is equipped with comfortable seating, snacks, board games, and a message board for students to share positive and uplifting notes.

“The goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can gather, relax, and connect,” the club shared.

In addition to the physical space, the club actively engages with the campus community through its Instagram page, @psychclub.wau, where it shares psychology facts, mental health tips, and motivational content.

Open to All Students

The Psychology Club is open to all WAU students, whether they are psychology majors or simply curious about the field. Through events, discussions, and social media engagement, the club aims to foster a supportive community that values personal growth, connection, and wellness.

For more information or to get involved, students are encouraged to attend upcoming events or follow the club on Instagram.
