Washington Adventist University to Host Free Friday Evening Concert on April 7, 7 p.m.
Takoma Park, Md. (March 29, 2017) Washington Adventist University (WAU) will host an evening concert on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in Takoma Park, Maryland. The event will feature performances by the University’s Columbia Collegiate Chorale, under the direction of James Bingham, Ph.D., and the New England Youth Ensemble, under the direction Preston Hawes, D.M.A.
Featured will be a performance of the Requiem by contemporary English composer John Rutter, who was born in 1945 and completed the work in 1985. It is scored for soprano, mixed choir and orchestra or chamber ensemble, and it addresses issues of death and resurrection, using words taken from the Missa pro defunctis and the Bible. WAU alumna Audrey Moise is the soprano soloist.
In addition to Requiem, choral and orchestral selections from the classics, spirituals and hymns will also be performed.
The concert is free and open to the public, and will be held at Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7700 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland 20912. The event is part of the University’s Alumni and Parents Weekend activities, which take place April 6-9. Free parking is available along Flower and Greenwood Avenues. Washington Adventist University is Montgomery County’s only four-year private college.
