WAU Shock Men’s Basketball Team Earns Title of 2017 AII Division II Men’s Basketball Champions
Takoma Park, Md. (March 29, 2017) The Washington Adventist University (WAU) Shock Men’s Basketball Team finished an historic season and conference tournament this year with a 22-7 record, and the team now has the title of 2017 AII (Association of Independent Institutions) Division II Men’s Basketball Champions.
This year’s championship game was played on February 26, and WAU scored 78-63 against #4 Rochester College. WAU team members who dominated the game included Tyrus Fleetwood, who finished with a game high of 23 points and 8 rebounds. Elliott Meredith scored 20 points, and Eric Lindsey scored 13. Brian Bridgeforth finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Charles Vines scored 10 points.
The team also made it to the 2017 NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Division II Basketball Championships this year. Although the team lost on March 9 to Northwestern College, 78-76, this was the first time the WAU Shock Men’s Basketball team has achieved back-to-back national appearances in the program’s history.
Additional milestones reached during this year’s basketball season included WAU Athletic Director and Head Coach Patrick E. Crarey II’s recognition for reaching 100 career wins, and four players reaching 1,000 career points.
