Written by: IMC Director Simonique Dietz
Washington Adventist University (WAU) is proud to welcome student leaders from across North America for the 2025 Adventist Intercollegiate Association (AIA) Conference, held on campus from October 15–19, 2025. Themed around connection, inspiration, and learning, this year’s gathering brings together representatives from Seventh-day Adventist colleges and universities for a week of leadership development, collaboration, and spiritual renewal.
“Over the last year and a half, countless hours of preparation have gone into ensuring this is a transformative experience,” said Dr. Ralph Johnson, WAU Vice President for Student Life and AIA 2025 Coordinator. “We want every attendee to walk away with not only new knowledge, but also lasting friendships and renewed purpose in their leadership journey.”
The Adventist Intercollegiate Association serves as a unifying body for student governments across Adventist higher education institutions in North America. Its mission is to foster effective leadership, encourage collaboration, and represent student voices to the Association of Adventist Colleges and Universities (AACU). By creating a platform for open dialogue and shared innovation, AIA strengthens the student experience across campuses nationwide.
A Week of Growth and Connection
The conference begins with an Opening Plenary Session on October 15, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Marcellus Robinson, President of the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Over the following days, participants will engage in a dynamic schedule that includes devotional sessions, leadership workshops, tours of the North American Division (NAD) and General Conference (GC) headquarters, and cultural excursions to Washington, D.C.
Workshops led by distinguished professionals will equip students with practical leadership skills and insights:

-
Andy Howell – Innovative Approaches to Problem Solving

-
Dr. Ralph Johnson – The Basics of Parliamentary Procedures

-
Dr. Rosemary Ascencio – Basic Principles for Student Leaders

-
Dr. Ramone Griffith – I Was Born for This! Christ-Centered Leadership
The conference also features a Friday evening vespers, Sabbath services at Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church, and a celebratory Closing Banquet on Saturday evening hosted by the WAU Student Association.
“This event is about celebrating the creativity, courage, and commitment that young leaders bring to their campuses,” shared Ashlee Chambers, WAU Dean of Halcyon Hall and Co-Coordinator for AIA 2025. “We hope each participant leaves energized, inspired, and equipped to make a greater impact in their communities.”
Notable Speakers and Leaders
The conference’s distinguished speakers include:

-
Dr. Alex Bryant, President of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists

These leaders bring decades of experience in faith-based leadership, education, and ministry—reinforcing AIA’s mission to cultivate holistic growth that integrates faith, service, and leadership excellence.
A Memorable Capital Experience
Beyond workshops and worship, attendees will explore Washington, D.C.’s historic landmarks and museums, offering a broader perspective on leadership and service. Dining options and local attractions around Takoma Park will provide students with a taste of the vibrant community surrounding WAU’s campus.
As the 2025 AIA Conference unfolds, participants are encouraged to take advantage of every opportunity to network, learn, and grow. “The most important part of this week,” said Dr. Johnson, “is the chance to connect—to engage deeply with others who share your mission to serve and lead.”
