Washington Adventist University Nursing Students Partner with AMEN for Community Health Outreach

Written by: IMC Director Simonique Dietz

Ten Washington Adventist University (WAU) nursing students joined health professionals from across the region for one of the three days medical outreach hosted by the Adventist Medical Evangelism Network (AMEN) on Friday, September 26, 2025. The event, held at Miracle Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church in Baltimore, offered free medical, dental, and vision screenings to the local community.

The initiative, organized by WAU faculty member Dr. Dhaya Nandipamu, was made possible through an invitation from Kathy Coleman, a WAU alumna and longtime supporter of community health ministries. Students provided assistance throughout the day, gaining valuable hands-on experience in holistic patient care.

“Serving at AMEN was a rewarding experience that allowed our students to integrate faith with practice,” said Dr. Tijuana Griffin, Chair of the WAU Nursing Department. “They not only applied their clinical skills but also connected with the community through compassionate service—something we strive to cultivate in all our graduates.”

The AMEN organization, founded in 2005, is a network of Adventist medical professionals dedicated to combining physical healing with spiritual ministry. Through annual conventions, free clinics, and local outreach events, AMEN partners with churches and educational institutions to demonstrate Christ’s healing ministry in action. According to the organization’s mission statement, AMEN seeks “to motivate, train, and equip health professionals to team with pastors and lay people in medical evangelism.”

While the September outreach was a one-time event for WAU nursing students, organizers have expressed interest in future collaborations. “Our students left inspired by the impact of faith-driven healthcare,” Dr. Griffin added. “We look forward to participating again and expanding our role in AMEN’s mission.”

The Washington Adventist University Nursing Department, a fully accredited program, continues to prepare compassionate and skilled healthcare professionals who serve both locally and globally. The program emphasizes clinical excellence, service learning, and spiritual care grounded in the values of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.

Prospective students and supporters are encouraged to explore opportunities to join or contribute to WAU’s Nursing Department. To learn more about the fully accredited nursing program, enrollment options, or ways to give, visit www.wau.edu/nursing.
