Washington Adventist University Welcomes Dr. Jason Wynter as New Professor of Psychology and Counseling

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (AP) — Washington Adventist University (WAU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jason Wynter as the new Professor of Psychology and Counseling. Dr. Wynter, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, brings over 15 years of experience in Christian tertiary education to his new role, along with a deep commitment to mental health and student development.

Dr. Wynter holds both a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from Northern Caribbean University (NCU). He has also earned additional qualifications from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Canada, further enhancing his expertise in the field of psychology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wynter has served in various capacities, including department chair, faculty member, academic advisor, and external program examiner/advisor. His extensive experience in training, presentations, psychological assessments, and radio hosting on mental health topics has made him a respected figure in the field. He is also a published author, with works focused on mental health issues.

In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Dr. Wynter is actively involved in humanitarian work. He is a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) and volunteers with the Jamaica Red Cross, focusing on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

Dr. Wynter is married to Dr. Stephanie Christopher, and together they have three children: Kyle, Keyla, and Kylie. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys cricket, nature walks, and traveling. As a strong believer in Jesus Christ, Dr. Wynter is dedicated to integrating his faith with his work, providing a holistic approach to education and mental health.
