TAKOMA PARK, Md. (AP) — Washington Adventist University welcomed entrepreneur Henok Tasfaye, founder and CEO of U Street Parking Corporation, as a speaker at our campus convocation Wednesday. Tasfaye shared his journey from an Ethiopian immigrant to a successful business leader in the Washington, D.C., area.
In his address, Tasfaye recounted arriving in the United States at age 14 and working to overcome challenges through hard work and faith. “Keeping God at the forefront has been key to overcoming life’s challenges,” Tasfaye said. “I came to this country with little more than a dream, and through faith and perseverance, I stand here today.”
Tasfaye’s story resonated with WAU’s diverse student body, many of whom come from immigrant backgrounds. He emphasized the importance of humility, resilience, and community service in achieving personal success.
The convocation was part of WAU’s fall series focused on faith, leadership, and community service, providing students with opportunities to hear from industry leaders and explore pathways to professional and personal growth.
