Who am I?
I was born on October 24,1632, and I lived in Delft, Holland, where I was fascinated with making lenses to observe small objects. With the lenses I made, I was able to observe many “animalcules” in water and other samples. Although I never shared my secrets for making my glass lenses, I was elected to the Royal Society of England in 1680. Since I was the first to see bacteria, I am considered the Father of Microbiology, but my early microscopes have also earned me the title of the Father of Microscopy.
