Happy Birthday!
Biology History
Who am I?
I was born on October 24,1632, and I lived in Delft, Holland, where I was fascinated with making lenses to observe small objects. With the lenses I made, I was able to observe many “animalcules” in water and other samples. Although I never shared my secrets for making my glass lenses, I was elected to the Royal Society of England in 1680. Since I was the first to see bacteria, I am considered the Father of Microbiology, but my early microscopes have also earned me the title of the Father of Microscopy.
Who am I?
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek made important contributions to both microbiology and microscopy, and you can read more about him in the “Encyclopedia Britannica“.
