Clinical Mental Health Counseling | MA

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives as a professional counselor? Then you have landed on the right website!

Washington Adventist University’s Department of Psychology and Counseling offers a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The 60-credit Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) includes field experience, practicum, and internship coursework totaling 1,000 hours of practical expertise. Graduates from the CMHC program receive the preparation and training necessary to seek professional licensure in the state of Maryland and potentially other states through reciprocity agreements.  Graduates may become Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPCs) or specialize in substance abuse counseling and ultimately become Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LCADCs).

Completion of the CMHC program provides immediate eligibility to sit for the National Counselor Exam (NCE), an assessment of knowledge, skills, and abilities for providing effective counseling services. The NCE is also a requirement for counselor licensure in many states. The program additionally places a strong emphasis on ethical and professional conduct, counseling techniques aligned with the ACA Code of Professional Conduct, and the integration of faith perspectives into counseling practice.

Enter the gateway to a rewarding career by enrolling in Washington Adventist University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program where we seamlessly bridge theory with real-world practice.  You will gain the theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and practical expertise needed to excel as a licensed clinical mental health counselor.
